Operation Sports Is Changing, Here’s How

We're not going anywhere, we're just trying to tweak what we offer to you -- and how we offer it to you all.

Hey folks,

I’m reaching out today in order to be upfront about something important. I know we all have busy lives and taking time to read anything is an ask, but I hope you’ll give me the time of day with this email and a couple others I’ll be sending this week (on top of the usual Not Just Another Roster Update newsletters).

Operation Sports is at a point where we need to evolve if we want this place to keep going — and keep going the right way.

For nearly 30 years, OS has existed because of its community. Not because of algorithms, not because of SEO tricks, and not because Google decided to smile on us that day. We have survived because you showed up, talked about the games you loved, shared knowledge, and cared enough to come back.

With that said, relying on ads and search traffic alone isn’t a sustainable path anymore – and honestly hasn’t been for quite some time. If we want Operation Sports to stay stable, independent from Google (that is, not become a slop factory of stories to chase clicks), and focused on the things that actually matter to sports gamers, we need to build something more direct.

That starts with the community we have right now, which includes you all.

Over the coming days, we’re going to be introducing a new Operation Sports subscription service with three tiers designed around two core ideas:

  1. Reducing our dependence on Google and ads so we can focus on building OS the way we want to build it

  2. Investing back into the community — more interaction, better perks, and more ways for us to actually spend time together

It’s about being able to:

  • Offer meaningful forum perks

  • Host social and online community events

  • Give you ad-free options

  • Create spaces where OSers can connect more than ever

  • Build something that feels more community-first

In short, this is about becoming more independent.

We’ll be breaking everything down in detail soon: what the tiers look like, what’s included, and how this fits into the future of Operation Sports. For now, I wanted you to hear it directly and honestly from us first.
